What gives you peace? The insight that both conflict or peace are choices and then choosing the latter.
Why Yoga? I believe in a healthy balance of body and mind. Just like walking, I thrive best on two equally strong legs to explore life. That's why I yoga (= union).
3 words to describe you: Energetic, frank, and bright.
What / who inspires you? Non-verbal solutions to verbal problems - like a yoga pose that gives me peace or a painting that tells me how I feel. Also, I love the world outside the box.
What you can’t live without? Mindful exercise that is vigorous and restorative. Quality time with my family. Mind-expanding work and study.
Favorite yoga pose and why? Half moon pose. It sounds so beautiful; it encompasses challenges like balance, strength, alignment, heart-opening.
Favorite Food? Food that my body craves (may it be whipped cream or greens) and that nourishes me well.
Words to live by (or your favorite quote): Love is union with somebody, or something, outside oneself, under the condition of retaining the separateness and integrity of one's own self. (Erich Fromm)
Best advice you’ve ever received (from who?): After rain comes sunshine (my father).
Words to describe your teaching style? creative, flexible and flowing.
What do you love to do for FUN? Writing letters and sending packages, art projects like painting, sculptures and happening and hosting parties.
When/where/with who was your first yoga class? In January 2008 in La Jolla, CA, at "Prana Yoga", which was at the bus stop that I had to take to get to and from work. Gerhard is German and I loved every aspect of his 90 minute class!
Local escape:A quick run or stroll in Frick Park, a swim in the Baby Pool at the JCC or any yoga class (home practice or at a studio) that fits into my schedule.

27 year-old yoga instructor Julika Lomas is from Bremen, Germany, and received her master's degree in psychology from University of Leipzig. Julika was trained as a yoga instructor at Prana Yoga in La Jolla, CA, where yoga teacher Gerhard Gessner introduced her to the beauty and physical challenge of Vinyasa flow, Anusara-inspired Jeanie Carlstead opened Julika’s heart to the deep spiritual richness in yoga, and Amanda McCarroll showed her how to structure a smooth, rhythmic and gentle yoga class.
As an instructor, Julika focuses on creating challenging but enjoyable classes for a range of skill levels. She believes in paying attention to details, such as enhancing a student’s pose with hands-on adjustments or paralleling breath and movement. While giving concise and clear instructions, she leaves her students the space to breathe and let go. She wants you to float out the door at the end of the class!
As the mother of a beautiful six-month old boy, Julika is familiar with the energizing and centering effects of yoga during pregnancy, birth and post-partum. She would be happy to share her special care with any pregnant women who attend her class.
In addition to her yoga instruction, Julika is also in a master's degree program for Marriage and Family Therapy.
